Dallas rejects cite and release

Dallas City Council in a 10-5 vote rejected a pilot plan to begin issuing citations for low-level marijuana possession in lieu of arrests and jail time. Though this is undoubtedly a defeat, the push for a Cite and Release program in Dallas is not over. Because we already knew the pilot program was imperfect, yesterday’s defeat gives us the opportunity to put a stronger policy on the books if we can understand why we lost, and the most strategic way to move forward. Come out to join the movement as we shed some light on what really happened at City Hall this week and benefit from some guidance on how this could ultimately lead us to other, more strategic victories.
